Messenger Plus! (formerly known as Messenger Plus! Live, often abbreviated as MsgPlus, Plus!, or mistakenly as MSN Plus) is an add-on for Windows Live Messenger and Skype. This software adds extra functionality to Microsoft's instant messaging client, Windows Live Messenger, by adding custom controls to the main interface. These controls affect Messenger's behavior and appearance, often via additional dialog boxes.

The add-on was first released in May 2001 as "The Messenger Plus! Extension" for MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger. It was later renamed "Messenger Plus!", and when the new Windows Live Messenger client was released the name "Messenger Plus! Live" was chosen. In 2011 the name was changed back to "Messenger Plus!". It became one of the most widely used add-ons for Microsoft's IM clients, with over 62 million users as of February 2010.

Who created it?

Messenger Plus! was originally created in 2001 by Cyril Paciullo, better known by his nickname "Patchou." He was born in France and later moved to Canada. He began developing Plus! as a hobby alongside his main job as a programmer, but maintaining Messenger Plus! soon became his full-time occupation.

In Q4 2009, Paciullo announced he no longer had full control of the product and Messenger Plus! was owned by Yuna Software Limited. In Q1 2011, Paciullo officially announced he had left the company and that chapter of his career was over. Financial details or the names of those behind the new company were not disclosed. Yuna Software has offices in various locations worldwide and maintains an office in Montreal, also known as Kimahri Software, where a development team continued work on Messenger Plus!.
